主要用途：工业上用作净水剂、煤气净化剂、媒染剂、催化剂、消毒剂、磁性材料、并用于制墨水，颜料等。农业上可用作肥料，是植物制造叶绿素的催化剂，对植物的吸收有重要作用，也可用作化肥、除草剂及农药，医治小麦的黑穗病，根治树干的苔类、地衣等。也用于饲料添加剂。
